John Dilts is the Founder and President of Maverick Angels, a “next generation” angel investor network based in Southern California, which focuses on mentoring and funding early-stage companies. Additionally, John is the Founder and CEO of Dilts Ventures, an Innovation Accelerator CompanyTM which creates sustainable innovation strategies based on an entrepreneurial approach. John is an expert in the areas of innovation, leadership and entrepreneurship and often serves as a featured speaker at innovation conferences and angel investor forums.

John is also the Co-Founder of SoCal Biotech Forum, a regional organization created to provide practical business information and networking opportunities among executives, entrepreneurs, scientists and investors focused on the biotech, medical device and healthcare industries along the “101 Corridor”.

John has created a unique methodology called Success Factor ModelingTM which profiles accomplished entrepreneurs and the entrepreneurial ecosystem and applies this open-market approach to create sustainable innovation inside large corporations. He frequently teaches seminars on the topics of sustainable innovation and entrepreneurial leadership around the world. His work also includes advising global corporate clients, including Nestlé USA, GlaxoSmithKline, HSBC, Microsoft, ChevronTexaco and the Fiat Group in Italy. John has appeared as a guest lecturer and panelist on the topic of entrepreneurship at various universities, including the University of Southern California, UCLA, Pepperdine University and the University of California at Santa Barbara.

Early in his career, John was employed for several years with top corporate law firms in Silicon Valley and has since served on the board of directors for numerous technology companies, both private and public, addressing a variety of industries. John earned his law degree from the University of San Francisco and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California.

Shelley Toy

Shelley Toy is the Director of Operations of Maverick Angels. On a daily basis, she interacts with numerous entrepreneurs across the United States in sourcing and screening quality deal flow from a variety of industries. Shelley guides these entrepreneurs through the qualification process and prepares them for their investor presentations. She manages all Maverick Angels events including the group’s monthly Maverick Arena meetings where entrepreneurs make their pitch for funding. Shelley also serves as a liaison between entrepreneurs and the Maverick Angels investors, facilitating working relationships between the parties during the entire investment process.

Additionally, Shelley is a team member of the SoCal Biotech Forum, a regional organization created to provide practical business information and networking opportunities among executives, entrepreneurs, scientists and investors focused on the biotech, medical device and healthcare industries along the “101 Corridor”.  Shelley is involved in managing and implementing the Forum’s quarterly events and Member programs.

Shelley received a Bachelor of Science degree from the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California, where she studied Entrepreneurship and Business Administration.
